FROM THE MAGAZINE SHELF is an occasional feature of the FOUNTAINDALE LIBRARY REFERENCE BLOG. Postings will highlight titles that you might find of interest, but haven’t picked up up to read and explore. In addition to the titles that are in the Magazine Area on the 2nd Floor of our library, postings will also includes titles from Zinio, the library’s digital magazine collection.

Yes, you read that correctly. It is possible to enjoy the foods of the holiday season and still maintain your gluten-free or allergen-free diet.
Our library subscribes to two bi-monthly magazines that can be a great help in meal preparation both during the upcoming holidays and throughout the rest of the year.
Gluten Free & MORE can be found on the 2nd Floor of the library in our Magazine and Newspaper area. Gluten-Free Living is one of the many eMagazines available to our customers through our digital magazine collection, Zinio.
The holidays are a time of year when many families include baking as a part of what makes this season special. A bonus of holiday home baking is that it makes the house smell wonderful! The December /January 2017 issue of Gluten Free & More has a number of baking feature articles.
Baking is also an area of gluten-free eating that some people find difficult to work with, so the articles in this month’s issue on preparing cupcakes, cookies, pies, and homemade rolls should be of particular interest to readers.
If you find that you have questions with transitioning to gluten-free baking, one of the regularly appearing features of the magazine is called “Ask the Chef.” Food editor Beth Hillson answers readers’ questions about special-diet baking.

The holidays are a time when friends and family gather together to celebrate. Food is almost always a part of celebrations at this time of year. This issue of Gluten-Free Living included a very helpful article titled “Hosting a gluten-free holiday meal.” It included a number of “Tips and tricks for pulling off your holiday meal.” Let’s face it, the holidays can be stressful in terms of how much time we have to prepare for a special get-together, so this article came at a good time!
Shifting to a gluten-free or allergen-free diet can be challenging, especially during the holiday season. These two magazines can broaden the range of what is possible for you to prepare for your family and friends to help make it a festive and fun time of year.
