Les Paul’s contributions to the development of the solid-bodied electric guitar, multitrack recording, overdubbing, and songwriting earned him many awards over his lifetime, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Musicians have been preparing for this event and will be recognizing Les Paul’s musical genius and creativity. They will do this in many ways and it doesn’t matter what type of guitar they play, whether it be a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Stratocaster, or a Gretsch Duo-Jet.
One of the places where this has been happening is Kansas City, MO. Over the past week or so, the Kansas City Star newspaper has been photographing guitarists with their favorite guitars as a tribute to Les Paul. The resulting Photo Gallery pays homage to the man whose name is synonymous with the electric solid-bodied guitar.
Right now, on the 3rd Floor of our library, there is a display of books and DVDs about Les Paul, his guitars, and his music. All of the items are available for checkout. The display will be up through Sunday, June 14.
