Downloads for your device

The library has multiple downloadable services such as Pindigital (Overdrive), 3M Cloud, OneClickDigital, and Zinio Magazines. Apps for all these services are available for your poratable devices and work very similarly from device to device. If you have a Kobo reader, Nook SimpleTouch or Kindle Paperwhite, you will need to download and install Adobe Digital Editions on your home computer and use that software to transfer titles to your particular device. For additional help on using any of these services, please contact our Adult & Teen Services Department at 630-685-4176, by e-mail at fplref@fountaindale.org or by text by sending the keyword askfpld to 66746 and then texting your question to that same number when you get the reply from the service.

Pindigital (Overdrive) – ebooks & eaudiobooks

OverDrive

Please note: A new version of the Overdrive Media Console App is scheduled to be available on August 20 (v 3.0). Your device should automatically update the app once you have it, but the instructions below are for v 2.0 and may not be applicable to the new version of the app.

Go to the App Store from your device and search for Overdrive Media Console. Download the app and when it is opened it should ask for you to sign in using an Adobe ID. If you do not have one touch “Get an Adobe ID” and you will be taken to Adobe’s website. Fill out the simple form and submit.

If the app does not ask you to sign in with an Adobe ID or after you have created one, follow the steps below depending on your device.

Apple users

Go back into the Overdrive app and touch “Get Books” in the upper right corner of the screen. At the bottom of the next screen, touch the “Settings” button. At the top of the screen enter your newly created Adobe ID, or touch “Get an Adobe ID” and come back after you create one, and password and touch “Authorize”.

Android 4.1 users (including Nook HD and Kindle Fire HD)

Go back into the Overdrive app and touch the symbol in the upper right corner that looks like three sliding switches. This will take you to the app settings. At the top of the screen, enter your newly created Adobe ID, or touch “Get an Adobe ID” and come back after you create one, and password and touch Authorize.

Android 2.3 users (including Nook Color & Tablet and the original Kindle Fire)

Go back into the Overdrive app and there should be a symbol that looks like three lines surrounded by a three sided box at the bottom center of the screen. Touch that to open the app menu and then touch “App Settings”. At the top of the screen, enter your newly created Adobe ID, or touch “Get an Adobe ID” and come back after you create one, and password and touch Authorize.

Once the device is authorized, touch “Get Books” on an Apple device; on an Android 4.1 device, touch the symbol that looks like a book with a plus (+) symbol; or on an Android 2.3 device touch the three lines surrounded by a three sided box and touch “Get Books”. Touch “Add a library” and browse for Fountaindale – you can try a search, but sometimes Fountaindale is not always found when using the search function. Once you find and touch Fountaindale Public Library District, in your “Get Books” list it should say Pindigital. Touch the star next to Pindigital to have the app remember this as your library. Touch anywhere on the Pindigital area to be taken to the Pindigital Overdrive access point. Touch login on the upper right, choose Fountaindale from the “Select a Library” drop down, and then input your library card number. Once you are signed in, you are ready to start checking out e-books and e-audiobooks using Overdrive! Please note: the format you want to choose for ebooks is EPUB, even if you are using a Kindle Fire. The Overdrive app uses EPUB as its format for ebooks.

3M Cloud- ebooks

3M Cloud

Go to the App Store from your device and search for 3M Cloud. Download the app. When you open it, you will need to browse for Fountaindale. After selecting Fountaindale, the app should ask for your library card number (username) and password (PIN). Once you have inputted those items, you should be able to check out e-books and read them from within the app.

OneClickDigital – eaudiobooks

OneClick Digital

You will need to establish an account with OneClickDigital by clicking here and then clicking “create new account” in the upper right corner of the website. Once you have established an account, you can download the OneClickDigital app from the App Store for your device. Choose your region (North America) and use your username and password to login to your account. You can now check out audiobooks! Once you have checked out an audiobook(s), click close in the upper corner. This will take you back to your “My Titles” list. If your title does not appear, you will need to refresh the list by either pulling down from the top of the screen (Apple devices) or touching the refresh button in the upper left corner (Android devices).

Zinio – emagazines

Zinio

Zinio access is offered through a 3rd party called Recorded Books. You’ll need to establish an account with Recorded Books first. You’ll do this by clicking here. This will take you to the Recorded Books Zinio interface.

In the upper right hand corner, find the link that says “create new account”. Click that and then fill in the fields on the window that pops up. If necessary, login in to the service, although you may already be logged in after registering.

You will then be able to select a magazine. Find one that interests you and touch it. You will be then taken to Zinio, the service that actually provides the magazines. You will need to establish an account with them as well. We strongly suggest that you use the same e-mail address and password that you did when you established your Recorded Books account. Once you establish on account with Zinio, you will be able to download the magazine.

There is an app available in the App Store of your device for Zinio (Note: the app is not available on the Kindle Fire – original – or either of the the Kindle Fire HDs). You can download it and then use the account you established with Zinio to login to the Zinio app.

The Zinio app is simply for reading the magazines. In the future, you will need to check out the magazine from the Recorded Books interface, which will then place the magazine into your account on Zinio. Once the magazine is in your Zinio account, it will automatically appear in the Zinio app when you login to the app.

Unlike e-books, magazine check outs do not expire. Once you download the magazine, it is yours to keep. Back issues of magazines are not available to check out, but Recorded Books is working with Zinio to possibly provide back issues on a select number of magazines in the near future. At this time, if you delete an issue that you have downloaded, you will be unable to access it again once the latest issue of that title is released.
