The recent passing of Meow, the very large orange and white tabby cat from New Mexico, whose owner could no longer care for him, made me very sad. It made me think of the pets that we have in our lives and how important their care and well being becomes.
National Pet Week, which this year runs from May 6 through May 12, is a good time to rekindle and celebrate the human-animal bond that we share with those creatures, great and small, whose care is entrusted to us.
Currently, on the 3rd Floor of the Fountaindale Public Library, in the New Books Area, we have a display of books from our collection that are available for checkout about pets and the people they live with. There’s a good chance that you’ll find a lot to relate to in these stories of dogs, cats, parrots, and an extraordinary owl named Wesley.
